Which is the best martial art style
Which is the best martial art style?
And the chances are you won’t like the honest answer.
The best martial art style?
First and foremost, any school or style that claims to be the best — is not the best martial art style. Guaranteed.
Why?
Have you ever heard the expression, “If you meet Buddha on the path, kill him”? What it means is that anyone who tells you he or she is Buddha, is not. The very fact that they are telling you this means that they are not the enlightened one.
The same holds true for martial arts.
If a style claims it’s the best … it ain’t.
Instead, you should search for a more reasonable answer.
Our style is the best martial art for some people, but not everyone.
There is no one best martial art style or system. Many have tactics and techniques to offer.
What’s Your Martial or Self Defense Goal?
Some styles are better at close-range fighting. Some martial arts styles are better for kicking. Some styles teach only offensive tactics. Other self defense styles offer a more passive/defensive approach.
Another way to look at this question of which martial art style is the best is to use logic.
If karate were the best, then there wouldn’t be a need for kung fu, ju jitsu, aikido, krav maga, etc.
If one style of kung fu (or gung fu) were the best, then the other 600 kung fu styles would have faded from existence.
Bruce Lee had the right idea of saying that a system or style shouldn’t be static — it needs to change with the times. It also needs to change with the individual, depending on age, body size, flexibility, strength, and a few other variables.
Bruce Lee was on the right track, but when he died, many of his students fossilized his system into a set of moves — exactly what Bruce Lee did NOT want.
Rather than asking which style is the best martial art, a better question would be — which style is the best martial art for me?
If you need help choosing a style, contact me. Maybe I could help … and no, I am not associated with any martial-arts organization. It would be unbiased advice.
